Brad Maddox burst onto the scene in WWE in an unusual way in 2012 when he cost Ryback the WWE Championship in a match against CM Punk that Maddox was officiating.

He then transitioned into a wrestling role in the company but he is best remembered for his time as both Assistant and General Manager of Raw. He returned to the undercard as an active competitor in the company until late 2015 when he was fired after referring to the crowd as “cocky pricks.”

Speaking on Wrestling With Rip Rogers, Brad Maddox explained that before his costly slip of the tongue, his mind was elsewhere during his big break due to some addictions he was dealing with:

“I was one of those stories where they just kind of lost their way. I got caught up in some things. Now, I’m sure you know the news. It’s fairly old at this point, right? Yeah, some stuff leaks, but it was kind of that time period. So, I had a porn addiction. Then that cascaded into a sex addiction, and that was a whole thing for me. That was just very mind-consuming.”

“So I wasn’t very focused, right at the time when I should have been. And then I’m going up there as a referee, and I’m having to carry a walkie-talkie around, and my ego was just too big. I didn’t fully take advantage of the opportunities.”

The leak Maddox is referring to is the leak of an explicit video in 2017 that he was part of along with current AEW star Saraya and WWE star Xavier Woods. Saraya previously discussed the dark places she went to mentally following the leak saying that she didn’t want to live anymore.
