WWE Logo over Attitude Era roster

Before becoming a WWE wrestler, Ken Shamrock was an MMA star.

Even prior to entering the world of mixed martial arts, Shamrock was accepted into the Japanese Universal Wrestling Federation, which was a shoot style promotion, where real strikes and holds were legal.

So, naturally, when word spread that he was looking for a way into WWE, then WWF, several wrestlers in the Stamford promotion pushed back against his signing.

Ken Shamrock Discusses Pushback From WWE Wrestlers

Judging by Ken Shamrock’s comments, it can be said that he understood why wrestlers in WWE were discontent about his signing.

The 61-year-old recently spoke about the same during an appearance on the Wrestling Life Online podcast.

No, I think rightfully so there was pushback, not necessarily on whether I was there or not there, but push back a little bit on whether or not they felt safe, because wrestling is really trust and depending on people to be where they’re supposed to be in certain critical situations, because if they’re not, people get hurt.

So I take a lot of that in the beginning because of who I was, you know, I was a big, strong guy and I was, you know, I was this bad-ass guy and I’m coming into this world of wrestling where there’s a lot of trust was built amongst one another and being in the right places at the right time.

With me having the ability that I have naturally, to go in there and, and put a lot of trust in me and be able to understand I’m gonna be where I’m supposed to be because I could severely, severely hurt someone.

It wouldn’t be because- but it’s because they’re guards down. It’s because that they’re vulnerable. Um, and you’re responsible for taking care of each of those individuals that you step in that, in that inside those ropes with, you’re responsible for them just as they are for you.

So there was a lot of that at first of like not truly being comfortable with going in there with me, not knowing whether or not I was going to be doing the things I needed to do to protect myself and them.

Ken Shamrock won multiple accolades in WWE, including the Intercontinental Championship and the Tag Team Championship, with Big Boss Man, once each.

He also won the 1998 WWE King of the Ring tournament, where he defeated The Rock in the final.
