Ex-WWE Star Denies John Cena Heat Over Infamous Creative Botch

John Cena promo on WWE Raw

A former WWE star has claimed that he has no issue with John Cena despite a creative decision that left everyone confused.

In 2010, John Cena had been at the top of the tree in WWE for five years and had defeated everyone put in his path. That year saw the shock debut of the Nexus as the season one contestants of NXT banded together to try and take over WWE for themselves.

Chaos ensued, leading to a huge seven vs. seven match at SummerSlam between Nexus and Team WWE. While many saw this as the chance to make the seven newcomers into real major stars on the WWE roster, it seemed John Cena thought otherwise. Instead, Cena delivered the win for WWE by overcoming 2-on-1 odds to defeat Justin Gabriel and Wade Barrett.

But one Nexus member does not hold a grudge.

John Cena Decided WWE SummerSlam Ending

Speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show, David Otunga admitted the ending of the match was all John Cena’s decision, and while he believes it was the wrong one, he does not hold any ill will towards Cena because of it:

No heat at all. It was his decision. I don’t think it was the right decision, if you ask John and he was being honest I don’t think he thinks it was the right decision in hindsight. But no there’s no heat there at all, no animosity.

Hey man, this is entertainment. To me this is like a movie or a TV show. I can’t get mad because another character who’s the lead, who’s been there longer, they want something to go a different way. I’m a rookie, I just showed up. I’m happy to be here, I’m happy to be in the main event.

John Cena will defend his WWE Intercontinental Championship in the penultimate match of his career when he takes on Dominik Mysterio at Survivor Series.
