A notable figure from WWE’s past has now officially closed the chapter on his wrestling career.

Muhammad Hassan, who made headlines during his brief tenure with WWE from 2004 to 2005, has formally announced his retirement from the squared circle.

Hassan, real name Mark Copani, received a significant push during his WWE run until a highly controversial storyline involving his character unfortunately coincided with the tragic London bombings on July 7, 2005. The negative public reaction led the television network UPN to pressure WWE to remove Hassan’s character from programming, resulting in the abrupt end of his WWE career.

Years later, after more than a decade away from mainstream wrestling, Hassan briefly returned to the ring in 2018, competing in a handful of independent circuit matches. However, he has now made it clear that his time as a professional wrestler has truly ended.

Recently, while speaking on the A2theK Wrestling Show, Hassan reflected on his one-time return to in-ring action and his final decision to step away for good. He described the experience as an enjoyable opportunity to reconnect with his past, but acknowledged that his days as an active competitor are definitely behind him.

“It was a lot of fun, just to be able to get back in a ring in front of a few hundred people. It wasn’t outrageous and just kind of play, so to speak, and just see if I could still do it, and I could do it, obviously not at the level I used to do it. So, I did a couple of more matches after that, and then I was done and kind of got it out of my system, and I don’t think I’ll ever step in the ring and wrestle again,” Hassan shared. (28:08 – 28:30)
