Ex-WWE Star Thinks Career Would Have Been Different Under Vince McMahon
A former WWE star has vowed to return to wrestling.
Back in October, popular ring announcer Samantha Irvin officially left WWE, surprising fans around the world.
In explaining her decision, Irvin said she never actually liked ring-announcing and wanted to be a manager. However, as WWE didn’t see her in that role, she decided to move on after feeling she’d achieved everything she could. Irvin was also quick to deny she would be following her partner Ricochet to AEW.
Despite this, Irvin has claimed she isn’t done with wrestling.
During an appearance on Busted Open Radio, the star was asked whether she had a future in the industry before she pondered what her career might have looked like if Vince McMahon had continued to run WWE.
Much of Irvin’s run with the company took place while the disgraced former Chairman was away from the business.
“I’m not done with wrestling at all. I now have realized that I will need to have an opportunity where I can make something. I have to be able to make something. Just like with the ring announcing, we have amazing ring announcers. We have always had great ring announcers. Great voices and very professional, more professional than myself.
When they asked me to do it, I said, ‘I’m going to inject some crack into this so that they move me off of it. I’m going to make this the biggest thing ever.’ Growing up with Vince [McMahon], honestly, if there was a Samantha Irvin, Vince would have taken her off of ring announcing. He would have been like, ‘Put her somewhere else and have her do something else.’
In my head, I always thought that’s what would happen. That wasn’t the case.
I’m so proud of everything I accomplished, but ring announcing is not my goal, and I’m very goal-oriented. When I accomplished all of that stuff, it was, ‘Okay, that’s it. Now I’m going to keep doing it, and there is nothing else to work for or reach,’ that’s when I had to step away.
If there is some work that needs to be done and something that I think needs to be improved and I can contribute, I’m going to finagle my way back in there when the time is right, wherever that may be,”
Ex-WWE Boss Vince McMahon Attends Super Bowl LIX
In a rare public appearance, Vince McMahon attended Super Bowl LIX alongside The Undertaker and Shane McMahon. Since leaving WWE and the TKO Group in January 2024, McMahon has remained largely out of the spotlight.
In January 2024, former WWE employee Janel Grant filed a lawsuit against Vince McMahon, John Laurinaitis, and WWE. The lawsuit contained allegations of sexual assault and sex trafficking.
Later the same year, it was announced that a new lawsuit had been filed against Vince McMahon, Linda McMahon, WWE, and TKO. The suit alleges that those named were complicit in the sexual exploitation of children by former ring announcer and ring crew chief Melvin Phillips Jr.
