Ex-WWE Star Claims They Should Have Been Bigger Than John Cena
A former WWE Champion feels they could have been bigger than John Cena.
After taking WWE’s tag team division by storm, Jeff Hardy was thrust into the singles ranks and expectations from fans and those within the company were high. However, very public personal struggles with drugs and alcohol saw him leave and return to the company on multiple occasions, often stunting his road to the top.
Despite this, Hardy eventually became a three-time WWE World Champion and one of the most popular stars in the industry.
In more recent times Hardy has appeared to turn his life around and is settled in TNA, but for many, including the man himself, his career remains a case of what might have been.
While speaking with WFAA, Hardy was asked whether he thought he’d still be wrestling at this point 30 years ago. The star responded that if it wasn’t for those well-documented demons in his 20s and 30s, he would “probably” have been bigger than John Cena.
“I don’t know, probably….the way I was living life in my 20s and 30s… if I was living life the way I’m living life now, oh my gosh, there’s no telling. I would probably be bigger than John Cena, today. I was born with such a gift to be a pro wrestler. It just felt so natural, like I was totally created to do this thing. The cool thing about that is I’m still here and still have life. I feel good,” he said.
“I don’t put a number on it. I’ll pretty much wrestle until I can’t wrestle anymore.”
In November, it was announced that Jeff Hardy and his brother Matt had signed new contracts with TNA. The new deals will keep the TNA World Tag Team Champions with the company for another 12 months. Jeff has previously stated that he’d like to end his career in WWE before being inducted into the Hall of Fame.
John Cena Makes Royal Rumble Promise
While Jeff Hardy’s wrestling goodbye might be a little way into the future, John Cena’s much-discussed retirement tour is now officially underway.
At Money In The Bank 2024, Cena announced his plans to hang up his boots after a year-long retirement tour where he’ll say goodbye and thank you to fans across the world. After a break from television, things finally got underway on the January 6th edition of Raw where Cena vowed to win the Royal Rumble.
A recent report claimed that Cena will challenge Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41, but as always, nothing is set in stone.
