Ex-WWE Star Always Ready To Return
A former Tag Team Champion says he would come back if WWE called.
Darren Young worked for WWE from 2009, when he signed a developmental deal, until 2017 when he was released.
The most significant thing that Young did in WWE was when he was part of The Nexus group of “rookies” who terrorized the company and destroyed many wrestlers like John Cena, Randy Orton, and even Vince McMahon himself.
After the Nexus storyline ended, Young found success as part of the Prime Time Players tag team with Titus O’Neil. The two men went on to have one reign as WWE Tag Team Champions as well.
After his WWE run ended, Young used his real name, Fred Drosser, as he continued his career in NJPW and other parts of the world.
Former Darren Young Would Welcome WWE Return
In an interview with Pro Wrestling Culture, Young revealed that he still talks to members of The Nexus because there’s a group chat. He also made it clear that he’d return to WWE if asked.
“The Nexus was a lot of fun for me. It was my big break with WWE. I did my thing as a group with the Nexus. I did my thing as a Prime Time Player. I did my thing with Bob Backlund. But the Nexus was so much fun, really, out of all the original Nexus members, I’m kind of the only one still actively, still actively wrestling, and I was the youngest member of the Nexus, you know, I’m 41, you know? To me, that’s old.
I say all the time, I still have a lot left to offer. I still have a lot left in the tank. People ask me, ‘Do I still talk to them?’ I do still. We’ve got a text thread. So we always talk about, ‘Oh, when are we going to do a comeback again?’ We can’t control that. That’s the machine, WWE, but I know if they called me now, I would be ready, because I stay ready.”
Wade Barrett, who led the Nexus group, works for WWE as an announcer. When discussing The Nexus in the past, Barrett said that the group died prematurely because WWE could have done a lot more before pulling the plug on them far too soon.
