The wrestling world is in mourning once again after the death of Steve Regal came to light.
It has now been widely reported that former AWA World Tag Team Champion Mr Electricity Steve Regal has passed away. Regal actually died on July 30th 2025, but news of his death did not spread at the time. He was 73 years old.
Steve Regal was the son-in-law of legendary wrestler Wilbur Snyder. Regal first entered the industry after being asked to build a ring and transport it to shows. He then became a referee before transitioning to becoming an active wrestler. During his career, Regal competed in the AWA, Memphis, Portland, Jim Crockett Promotions, NWA, and WWE.
Steve Regal and Jimmy Garvin captured the AWA Tag Team Championship from The Road Warriors in 1985, holding the gold for 111 days before losing the title to Curt Hennig and Scott Hall.
NWA Pays Tribute To Steve Regal
His brief career in WWE – then known as WWF – saw Regal share the ring with the likes of George ‘The Animal’ Steele, Junkyard Dog, Tito Santana, Lanny Poffo, The British Bulldogs, and the Honky-Tonk Man.
The NWA paid tribute to Regal on social media, writing:
The National Wrestling Alliance is saddened to note the passing of former NWA World Junior Heavyweight Champion “Mr. Electricity” Steve Regal. Defeating Denny Brown for the title, this flashy and charismatic grappler reigned atop pro wrestling’s junior heavyweight in 1986, paving a path for generations to come. The NWA extends its most sincere thoughts to Regal’s family, friends and fans during this time.
2025 has seen its fair share of wrestling deaths, with the most notable being the passing of WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan at the age of 71.
