Ex-WWE Star Reveals John Cena Match Was Never Supposed To Happen

John Cena WWE

A former WWE star recalled the time when they were put into a match with John Cena at a live event.

There are just two more matches left in the legendary WWE career of the former 17-time WWE World Champion John Cena, who is also the current Intercontinental Champion.

At Survivor Series on November 29th, Cena will defend the Intercontinental Title against Dominik Mysterio in Dirty Dom’s hometown in front of 40,000+ fans at Petco Park in San Diego. Dom may have the hometown advantage, but the fans will likely be behind Cena in his final WWE PLE match.

The Saturday Night’s Main Event special on December 13th will be John Cena’s final match, and it will be against the winner of the Last Time Is Now Tournament, which started with 16 men.

Throughout his 23-year career on the WWE main roster, John Cena has wrestled many of the greatest wrestlers of all time, and he’s even been in matches against some top women, too. Those matches would be mixed tag team matches, and in WWE, men can’t hit women, but they are still involved in the same match.

John Cena Helped Sonya Deville Get Through WWE Mixed Tag Team Match

On a recent episode of her Daria & Toni Unwrapped podcast with Saraya (fka Paige in WWE) as the guest, former WWE superstar Sonya Deville (Daria on the podcast) spoke about a time when she actually got to be in a tag team match against John Cena. It wasn’t the original plan, but Cena helped her in the match.

Daria/Sonya: “Did you know I wrestled John Cena? No big deal.”

Saraya: “Did you? When?”

Daria: “At Madison Square Garden.”

Saraya: “What?”

Daria: “In a tag team match with him and Nikki Bella against me and Elias.”

Saraya: “I love that!”

As many WWE fans know, John Cena dated and was engaged to Nikki Bella in the 2010s, but they broke up before getting married.

Daria: “It was never supposed to happen. It was supposed to be Pam (aka Bayley), something happened to Pam and they were like what other heel is here? And it was between me and Mandy (Rose) and I don’t know, whoever picked me. They were like, come on.”

Saraya: “How cool is that?”

Daria: “It’s the f**king Garden. So only to say that I got to hear his in-ring psychology because he told me everything to do. He literally had Elias in a headlock and he said, ‘Sonya, you ready? Okay, when I say, go hit Nicole off the apron.’ I said, ‘Yes, sir’ like a puppy dog.”

The next WWE PLE is Survivor Series on November 29th in San Diego. Here’s the lineup:

  • Men’s WarGames Match: CM Punk, Cody Rhodes, Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso & Roman Reigns vs. Bron Breakker, Bronson Reed, Logan Paul, Drew McIntyre & Brock Lesnar
  • Women’s WarGames Match: Rhea Ripley, Iyo Sky, Alexa Bliss, Charlotte Flair & AJ Lee vs. Nia Jax, Lash Legend, Asuka, Karii Sane & Becky Lynch
  • Intercontinental Championship: John Cena vs. Dominik Mysterio
  • Women’s World Championship: Stephanie Vaquer vs. Nikki Bella

You can watch WWE Survivor Series: WarGames on Nov. 29 streaming live at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT on the ESPN App in the United States and on Netflix everywhere else.
