Ex-WWE Name Blasts Jey Uso’s World Heavyweight Title Reign

Jey Uso WWE

A former WWE employee feels like Jey Uso isn’t living up to the hype as the World Heavyweight Champion.

When Jey Uso won the 2025 Men’s Royal Rumble match, it was a bit of a surprise, considering big names like John Cena, Roman Reigns, CM Punk, Seth Rollins, Drew McIntyre, and others were in the match. Due to his popularity with fans, WWE felt it was necessary to elevate Jey with the Rumble win.

At WrestleMania 41, Jey Uso made Gunther tap out to his own sleeper hold, and Jey became the World Heavyweight Champion for the first time in his 15-year WWE career.

Since WrestleMania, Jey Uso has only defended his World Title twice. The first time was against Seth Rollins on Raw, which ended in a disqualification. He then beat Logan Paul at Backlash in a match that saw John Cena and Cody Rhodes get involved.

Former WWE announcer Jonathan Coachman and former WWE producer Tom Carlucci discussed Jey Uso’s title reign on Coach’s The Last Word podcast, with both men expressing criticism.

Carlucci: “Is he the only guy that I can think of that really has regressed? He has not elevated that title one iota. I’m tired of the entrance song, I’m tired of the Yeeting for 12 minutes. He just hasn’t elevated himself or the title one iota. Am I wrong in assuming that?”

Coach: “We need to have a banger for him. He’s gotta have a 40-minute where he almost loses, where there’s blood, and we go man he really earned that tonight. Because right now, nothing has changed. He’s still doing the Yeeting for 10 minutes, and it drives me insane.

It’s always before the commercial, go to commercial, come back, Michael Cole’s out of breath, Pat McAfee’s still doing it and we go okay, let’s do it again, let’s roll it back. So to me, there’s got to be levels to the game. Right now, I don’t think of him as a guy who is going to dig deep to keep that title against somebody like Gunther.”

Jey Uso Defending World Heavyweight Title Two Days After Big Tag Team Match

The World Heavyweight Champion Jey Uso will be involved in two big matches over the next week. At Money in the Bank on June 7th in Los Angeles, he’ll team up with Cody Rhodes against the WWE Champion John Cena and Logan Paul.

Two days later, on the June 9th edition of Raw, Jey Uso will defend the World Heavyweight Title against the former champion Gunther.

In addition to that, Jey will also have to think about a wrestler potentially cashing in the Money in the Bank briefcase on him, too. Busy times ahead for the champ.
