Ex-WWE Champion Details Scary Spot With Brock Lesnar: “Time Stood Still”
Brock Lesnar has built his career on dominating opponents with sheer strength and unmatched explosiveness.
Many top WWE Superstars have stepped into the ring with The Beast, but few have lived to tell the tale quite like Stevie Richards. Speaking on The Stevie Richards Show, the former WWE Hardcore Champion opened up about a harrowing in-ring moment he shared with Lesnar during a tag team match back in January 2002.
The bout, which took place at a WWE live event in Chattanooga, Tennessee, featured Richards and Tommy Dreamer teaming up against a young Lesnar and Randy Orton.

Richards vividly recalled a moment that left him physically and mentally rattled. Richards then compared the experience to something out of a movie. Despite being a non-televised house show, the match clearly left a lasting impact on Richards, who spoke with admiration and fear about Lesnar’s brute force.
“Brock, man… I told you this before, the thing that stands out is that tag match in Chattanooga. Chattanooga, Tennessee, where we dominated that match, Dreamer and I against Brock and Randy Orton,” Richards said.
“But I remember the memories. The memories I have of that match is one thing and one thing alone. The fact that my back was to one side of a WWE 20-foot by 20-foot ring, back against these ropes here, and Brock just belly-to-bellied me with no jump. Just snatched me, threw me, and my heels hit the other rope on the other side of the ring.”
“It was like Rocky. The only thing that stopped me from going into the first four rows was the ring ropes. It was scary, dude. I felt like time stood still. I’m like, ‘I’m never going to land.’ It was like where they kind of like clip out somebody and they’re just flying around the globe over and over again. That’s what I felt like.” [1:44 – 2:50]
As of now, Brock Lesnar is absent from WWE programming. His hiatus reportedly stems from legal concerns surrounding a federal investigation connected to Vince McMahon, though nothing has been officially confirmed by WWE. Fans continue to speculate about when or if Lesnar will return to the squared circle.
