Ex-WWE Champion Lost AEW Opportunity After Turning Down Storyline

A former champion in WWE revealed she lost an opportunity with AEW after she refused to appear simply as someone else’s wife.

Darby Allin might have conquered Mount Everest, but he’s now looking at finally conquering Jon Moxley and the Death Riders once and for all in AEW. Allin was on hand to help Hangman Adam Page win the AEW World Title from Moxley at All In Texas, but has now retreated to the rafters just as his mentor, Sting, did in WCW.

Allin used to be married to former WWE star Gigi Dolin, who is better known outside of that company as Priscilla Kelly.

Ex-WWE Star Turned Down AEW Role

Speaking on Rulebreakers with Saraya, the former NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion revealed she had the chance to feature in AEW once upon a time, but only as a role that put her relationship with Darby Allin front and centre:

Maybe it screwed me over for turning down the opportunity, but I had never been on a big televised company before. I did the Mae Young Classic for WWE, but most people don’t even remember that. But this was the first time I was going to be on [proper] TV, and I was like, if I get my first real introduction as “Darby Allin’s wife at ringside”, I was scared, especially at that time that I would just be his wife.

At that time, too, I was so strong and bull-headed about it, I am more than just a wife because you know how it is, Brie Bella would come to the ring and she would just get “Yes” chants. That was my biggest fear, not that I was like “screw my then-husband”, but it was like I want to be my own entity. I don’t want to be this person when I come to the ring; they’re chanting Darby. Maybe that screwed me over, maybe it didn’t.
