Ex-WWE Champion Gets Honest About Possible Retirement At 39
This well-known former WWE superstar is thinking of calling it quits.
Wrestling is known to be a gruelling industry. Athletes obviously find it difficult to perform at the highest level after years of in-ring work and entertainment.
One such superstar who has worked at the top level is Hornswoggle.
Hornswoggle made a name for himself as a comedic character and a mischievous Leprechaun-like character. He was known for his pairing with Finlay, being portrayed as Finlay’s son during the Stamford-based promotion’s old regime.
The Star was released from WWE in 2016 and has since made sporadic appearances, maintaining good terms with the company.
Hornswoggle Discusses WWE Retirement at Age 39
Speaking to WrestlingNewsCo’s Velvet Ropes, Hornswoggle revealed that he would retire once wrestling stops being fun for him, as he is someone who doesn’t like to view the craft as work and would rather have fun with it.
So, I don’t know what’s next. I’m going to continue to take bookings. I’m going to continue to have fun with them. And the minute I stop having fun again, like really, really not having fun, I’m done because then I’m working. And I say it all the time: I don’t want to work. I just want to do what I love to do.
Hornswoggle also touched upon John Cena’s recent retirement in the same interview stating that The Champ’s retirement deeply affected him and many others as compared to other superstars who retired but went on to return later, something John Cena has confirmed he will never do.
It would also be especially touching for the former Cruiserweight Champion as he shared the stage and the locker room with the GOAT back in the day in WWE.
