Why Ex-WWE Champion Can’t Remember WrestleMania Main Event

A former WWE Champion had to be guided through the biggest match of their career.

While The Undertaker and Triple H did their best to steal the show at WrestleMania XXVII in 2011, the ramifications of the main event were still being felt two years later.

In the headline bout, The Miz put the WWE Championship on the line against John Cena. However, the match appeared to end with both men being counted out. This saw The Rock, who was acting as the event’s host, restart the action.

As the match reached its conclusion, Rock hit Cena with a Rock Bottom as revenge for an Attitude Adjustment days earlier on Raw. This allowed Miz to retain his title, although he was laid out by The Great One who ended the show standing tall.

Despite the match featuring the World Championship, it was used to set up matches between Cena and Rock at the next two WrestleManias.

The Miz Can’t Remember Famous WWE Moment

During a new interview with Alistair McGeorge for The Metro, the third man in the ring that night, referee Mike Chioda, recalled having to talk Miz through the match after he suffered a concussion. Chioda added that Miz later thanked him for getting him through the match.

“I did a WrestleMania match with Miz, and I was calling him spots, calling him spots, calling him spots. And I knew he got his bell rung, but I didn’t know he didn’t remember the whole match,

He remembered a little bit here, a little bit there, a little bit there. When I got back, I was like, “Congratulations, man, congratulations”. I was like, “You okay, brother?”

He’s like, “I don’t remember anything, really. I remember you telling me some spots”. And then I was like, he was listening to everything I was doing.

He was just very thankful for getting him through that, because if he doesn’t get through that, you never know if there’s another moment like that for Miz down the road, you know?”

Following his win at WrestleMania, Miz lost the World Championship the following month at Extreme Rules, with John Cena picking up the win in a Triple Threat Cage Match also involving John Morrison. Miz wouldn’t win the World Title again for another decade, holding the title for just eight days in early 2021.

In early 2025, The Miz was moved to SmackDown alongside Damian Priest.
