Ex-WWE Star Recalls Brock Lesnar Feud Ending Due To Vince McMahon

Brock Lesnar

A former WWE wrestler has detailed that his plans to face Brock Lesnar never came to fruition.

The November 4, 2019 edition of WWE Raw featured Brock Lesnar and his advocate Paul Heyman looking for Rey Mysterio, whom Brock was feuding with at the time. The duo went up to the commentary team that was placed over by the entrance area rather than by ringside.

At the time, the commentary team featured a guy named Dio Maddin, who WWE fans would know as a wrestler named Mace as well. Lesnar tried to intimidate Maddin, who is a big guy just like Brock, so Lesnar picked up the big man and hit him with an F5 through the commentary table. After that, Maddin never appeared on commentary again.

While speaking to Steve Fall of WrestlingNewsco, former WWE superstar Mace spoke about how he was supposed to wrestle Lesnar at some point, but it never happened due to Vince McMahon changing his mind.

“As I understand it, it was pitched that I go into some sort of program with Brock, because in my head, like after that (Brock putting him through a table), they told me, ‘Oh, we want you to just sell it’, and I’m like, ‘Okay,’ Then there’s another week went by and they’re like, ‘No, we’re still having to sell it’, and I was like, ‘Okay.’ Then they’re like, ‘Okay, we’re moving on from you’ but in that maybe three week period of not knowing, I’m back in the ring and I’m training because I’m like, oh, surely, because the segment did so well on everything.”

“I looked at the numbers on Twitter or X, and on YouTube, the numbers were tremendous. I’d never gotten a response like that for anything. I’m like, man, even if I just get in the ring with Brock and he kills me in two minutes, that could make my career because that’s a cool story of the commentator that put on some boots and went toe to toe with Brock Lesnar, even if it’s for a minute, but as I understand it, Vince thought that it would confuse the fans because they didn’t know I was a wrestler. Then I had to sneak back onto RAW as Retribution.”

Following his WWE release, Mace is using the name Mason Madden in his wrestling career.

Brock Lesnar Expected To Make WWE Return Soon

The last time WWE fans saw Brock Lesnar in the ring was at SummerSlam 2023 on August 5th when he lost to Cody Rhodes in a memorable match that ended when Lesnar raised Cody’s hand as a sign of respect. That was over five months ago. A new report suggests that Lesnar is set to return to WWE at any time.

Considering that the WWE Royal Rumble is on January 27th, that could be the night when Lesnar makes his first appearance of 2024.
