Ex-WWE Star Believes Big E Will Be Cleared To Return

A WWE tag team legend thinks that The New Day’s recent heel turn against Big E on Raw could lead to the big man’s return to the ring.

Big E is a former WWE Champion who has been unable to wrestle since suffering a broken neck on SmackDown in March 2022. During a tag team match, E took an overhead belly-to-belly suplex from Ridge Holland on the floor and unfortunately, there was not enough rotation so E was seriously hurt. It’s unknown if E will wrestle again.

The New Day’s 10-year celebration was a big part of WWE Monday Night Raw on December 2nd. While Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods had issues on-screen for several months, Big E showed up to try to help his best friends.

During his promo on Raw, Big E suggested that maybe he could be the manager of Kofi and Woods. While the fans liked that idea, Kofi and Woods didn’t like it at all. Instead, Kofi and Woods were very disrespectful toward Big E while also openly mocking him for not being cleared to wrestle. Kofi mentioned other WWE legends like Steve Austin, Kurt Angle, and Edge for coming back after broken necks, yet Big E hasn’t been able to wrestle. Xavier Woods also shouted that E will never be cleared to return.

It was an emotional scene that left E speechless while the fans booed Woods & Kingston, who appeared to be united again after rudely admonishing E.

Matt Hardy is part of the legendary Hardy Boyz tag team that is among the teams discussed as the greatest of all time in WWE, just like The New Day. Matt also worked for WWE for several years while The New Day was on top in the company, so he’s very familiar with them.

While speaking on his Extreme Life Of Matt Hardy podcast, Matt put over The New Day’s breakup segment as excellent television.

“I thought it was an excellent segment. I thought the emotion was so strong and so powerful and evoked feelings in anyone.

As he continued, Matt Hardy spoke about Kofi Kingston’s great work in the segment.

I watched this package back and then watched the segment and you see the buildup already between Kofi and Xavier, then come down to the ring, and Big E comes back and once they lock it in, especially Kofi — because I feel like Kofi is like a Jeff Hardy, he is like a Ricky Steamboat. He is the enterally beloved babyface figure and I love Kofi for that. He is an awesome dude, I love him so much, I actually miss being around him.

For him to really turn it up to the max on letting go on his fear of being an a**hole and really being a d**k in this situation where there’s all this sympathy on Big E talking about you had a broken neck, other people came back but you didn’t even come back to help us when you could have.

Just a ton of sympathy on him and that segment was so important and it was so big and so many people were talking about it and so many people are invested in it. It’s one of those things where it’s a very friendly reminder or stark reminder too of how important that is in the entertainment business known as pro wrestling.

The New Day’s Segment With Big E Is A Reminder Of What’s Important In Pro Wrestling

Matt Hardy went on to speak about how that segment featuring The New Day should be a reminder about what’s important in WWE and all of pro wrestling.

Segments like that are often more important or more consequential than a five star match or a six star, seven star, whatever absurdity you end up wrestling. At the end of the day, pro wrestling is not all about the wrestling. I mean, that’s great when the wrestling is really good. But also, what is important is people being emotionally invested in characters and their story and what they’re doing. That started with the New Day, if it’s followed up on correctly it can be huge.”

After the way the segment was done, many people believed Big E might be cleared to compete in a WWE ring again. Matt Hardy believes it too.

“I think so. I would imagine the reason they decided to go here is because he is going to get cleared.”

Prior to The New Day segment taking place, Big E has made it clear that he’s in a good place in his life and at peace, even if that means he can’t compete in a WWE ring again.
