Ex-World Heavyweight Champion May Never Wrestle Again
A former world heavyweight champion is dealing with multiple serious health issues.
Tom Lawlor recently revealed that he will need hip replacement and spinal surgeries.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter had earlier reported that Lawlor’s prognosis was not positive, and he was struggling.
The Major League Wrestling ex-world heavyweight champion’s L-5 and S-1 vertebrae are said to be affected, resulting in muscular atrophy and numbness.
The cause of his ailment has yet to be specified by doctors, but it may have come during his time in amateur wrestling, pro wrestling, or MMA.
Ex-World Heavyweight Champion Provides Health Update
The last time Tom Lawlor wrestled was six weeks ago. He recently provided a health update on Monday’s Wrestling Observer Live while speaking to Bryan Alvarez.
I had some scans done and unfortunately, its sounds as if I’m heading towards…what I’ve been told I need to have done is have a hip replacement in my left hip and some sort of spinal surgery.
The L5 S1 vertebrae in my back, down at the bottom, I have herniated discs, there’s no discs there anymore. And the spinal column, that portion is out of place and is pinching a nerve in my back and that’s why I’ve lost a lot of feeling in my left leg, some size was atrophied. And really, I have a hard time walking.
The MLJ ex-world heavyweight champion also said he fears the worst.
I don’t know how long I’m going to be on the shelf, I don’t know if I’ll ever wrestle again.
Lawlor is signed to AEW and is on an indefinite hiatus. He has also had stints in the independent circuit and New Japan Pro Wrestling.
