A new era begins in WWE today, an era where John Cena isn’t an active wrestler anymore. The Never Seen 17 officially retired from in-ring competition this past Saturday, bringing an end to a glorious 23-year career in WWE.

He faced Gunther in his final match in the company, and despite giving it his all, he wasn’t able to overcome the Ring General and tapped out for the first time in over two decades.

Tonight on Monday Night RAW, Gunther opened the episode on the heels of his landmark win over the 17-time WWE World Champion and gloated about his latest achievement in front of a packed Giant Center crowd in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

Gunther revels in the WWE Universe’s boos

Gunther came to the ring to a sea of boos from the fans and seemed to soak in the jeers from the WWE faithful. He came to the ring and reveled in the fact that he made John Cena tap out just as he promised.

The fans voiced their displeasure throughout the time Gunther was out in the middle. He seemed to leave after making a single statement about making Cena tap out but returned twice to celebrate in front of the people jeering him on.

After repeatedly gloating about his victory over Cena, Adam Pearce was furious with the former World Heavyweight Champion as he disrespected John Cena and his legacy, and he asked Gunther to leave the show after just 15 minutes.
