Ex-Intercontinental Champion Reportedly Replaces William Regal In WWE
According to one report, a former Intercontinental Champion might have taken over William Regal’s role in WWE.
William Regal has long been on the hunt for talent on the independent wrestling scene for WWE. Regal was tasked with putting together the field for a tournament to crown the first-ever WWE United Kingdom Champion. He is also responsible for many current international stars being a part of the WWE roster, but it seems there is now another name taking control of that.
William Regal No Longer Recruiting Talent?
Speaking on a Self Made Session on YouTube, Self Made Pro noted that a major change has taken place in terms of WWE recruitment, with Performance Center Head Coach Matt Bloom seemingly taking the reins from William Regal:
Whether it was NXT for developmental or the main roster, the guy who scouted Japan and Mexico and said, ‘I want Dragon Lee. I want this guy. I want that guy. This is who we have to sign,’ was William Regal.
Regal was pushing hard for Dragon Lee, bringing back Kairi Sane, going after Jay White, trying to bring in Kazuchika Okada—which obviously didn’t work—plus names like Tama Tonga and Jeff Cobb. Even for developmental talent, Regal was heavily involved in identifying and pushing these guys.
Right now, and I don’t know if he’s officially replaced Regal or not, but on the developmental side the person doing that job is Matt Bloom. He’s the one locked in on what’s happening in New Japan Pro-Wrestling right now.
Matt Bloom is best known for his in-ring career as Albert, A-Train, Giant Bernard, and Lord Tensai. He used the Giant Bernard name for his own successful run in NJPW, which might be why he’s got a close eye on what is happening in that promotion.
