Ex-Champion Blasts WWE For ‘Dumbing Them Down’
Ex-WWE Divas Champion Jillian Hall says WWE didn’t let her shine.
Hall began her career at the Stamford-based promotion in July 2005. After spending almost five years at the company, she was released from the company in November 2010 but remained a recognized figure through sporadic appearances, including the 2019 Raw Reunion and the 2021 Women’s Royal Rumble.
Following her departure from the Stamford-based promotion, Hall wrestled on the independent circuit until around 2013. She officially confirmed her retirement in a recent interview on the Ring the Belle podcast. In the conversation, she stated she is retired but left open the possibility of returning for special events like the Royal Rumble.
I am retired from wrestling. I’m retired retired. Coming out to do this [interview] is a magical miracle. For you, I’ve come out of retirement. If the Rumble calls, there’s a 95 percent chance that I would say yes. The five percent would be like if it was on my daughter’s birthday or something.
Jillian Hall Wanted To Do More In WWE
Jillian Hall also discussed her wrestling journey in the interview, revealing that WWE limited her in-ring opportunities. She noted that before joining the company, she showcased much more wrestling ability on the independent scene, but upon reaching the main roster, she was frequently restricted to basic moves and repetitive performances.
This stifling led to a routine that did not allow her to fulfill her potential fully, despite memorable matches, including bouts against Gail Kim. She expressed disappointment that she and others were not given the chance to truly shine on the bigger stage, indicating that creative decisions dampened her chances of advancing her wrestling career to the extent she wished.
Oh, for sure. They dumbed me down when I got to the main roster. If you watch before WWE, you would see more of a wrestler than you saw in WWE. She (Gail Kim) and I could have done some amazing things together had we been given the opportunity.
But unfortunately, we were given six minutes on Superstars here and there. It’s sad they didn’t even put it on RAW… It’s like no shade to Superstars or anything. It’s just that wasn’t the main show. They just didn’t give me a chance, you know. [H/T Ringside News]
