Ex-AEW Star Wanted Will Ospreay Before Abrupt Exit
One former AEW star wanted to get in the ring with Will Ospreay before their career in the company came to an abrupt halt.
Will Ospreay has set the world on fire since joining AEW and will get the chance to challenge for the AEW World Championship when he takes on Hangman Adam Page in the final of the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament at Double Or Nothing.
But one potential dream match for the English star won’t now happen, but it wasn’t for the lack of trying.
Will Ospreay Match Pitched By Aleister Black
Speaking on Wrestling the Rap Game, Aleister Black revealed that he had pitched to face Will Ospreay in AEW, but that match wasn’t to be:
The Ospreay match is something that I actually pitched a couple of times. We had such good chemistry back then. We had some absolute barnburners and it’s also because I’m a bit of a calculus for him because I force him to do different things with his wrestling. When we did wrestle, I would work his leg, ‘Now you can’t fly. What are you going to do?’ I have a good relationship with Will.
I have a good relationship with Will. I remember sitting in his dad’s car and his dad was driving us from show A to show B, and I remember saying to him, ‘You’re going to be a big star. You’re going to be a really big star.’ At the time, the goal was Dragon Gate. I said to him, ‘That’s easy. That’s a matter of time.’ His road went the way it went, but now, he’s one of the biggest stars in professional wrestling.
Aleister Black’s tumultuous time in AEW mercifully came to an end in early 2025, and the former AEW Trios Champion has now returned to WWE.
Ospreay and Black have faced each other one-on-one four times in their careers, with all of those matches coming in 2015 and 2016 on the European independent scene.
