Ex-AEW Star Reveals Scrapped CM Punk Pitch
Former AEW star Lio Rush has revealed CM Punk had an interesting idea for him during his time in the company that could be called ‘Rush Meets World.’
CM Punk famously debuted in AEW in August 2021 ending his long hiatus from wrestling. That coincided with Lio Rush’s brief spell in AEW that came to an end amid controversial circumstances. The former NXT Cruiserweight Champion’s short-term deal in AEW came to an end in January 2022 after Lio Rush had a very public fallout with Tony Khan.
CM Punk was fired by AEW after All In 2023 for his part in a backstage altercation with Jack Perry and has since made waves by returning to WWE for the first time in almost a decade.
CM Punk Wanted Lio Rush To Have Famous Manager In AEW
Speaking to MuscleManMalcolm, Lio Rush revealed that CM Punk wanted him to be managed in AEW by their mutual friend and Boy Meets World star Danielle Fishel – best known as Topanga:
I’ve got a story with CM Punk. [Laughs] I definitely have a story with CM Punk. I remember meeting CM Punk during the beginning of the show, when we first all came to the building, and I remember seeing him sitting in the bleachers. I just walked over and introduced myself to him, told him how much I looked up to him as a kid. Didn’t want to make him feel old. I told him that I looked up to him, that I appreciate his work, and his time in WWE.
A couple of months later, probably a month or two later, he ended up coming to me with an idea, and I don’t know if I should say this, but I’m going to say it anyway. I remember he came up with an idea where he wanted Danielle Fishel to come into AEW to be my manager. [Laughs].
We had that mutual friend in Danielle. That wasn’t the idea that came up. That never really came to fruition. That’s my CM Punk story. I’ve got a couple more, but maybe I’ll save it for a book one day. That’s one CM Punk story for you.
That never came to fruition sadly but Fishel is a wrestling fan and previously was a presenter for the AEW Dynamite Awards in early 2021.
