Ex-AEW Star Forced Into Surprise Retirement

A former AEW star has walked away from the ring.

Fuego del Sol began appearing for AEW back in 2020 before becoming All Elite in 2021. The star left the company in June 2023 after finding TV time harder and harder to come by.

He later suggested that Cody Rhodes’ departure from the company had a negative impact on his career.

Despite his exit, Fuego del Sol returned to AEW in August 2024, although he was never under contract. During that summer, he appeared on Rampage and in Ring of Honor.

Ex-AEW Star Hangs Up Boots

At Joey Janela’s Spring Break 9, Fuego went into a Mask vs. Career match with Atticus Cogar, but it seems there was actually even more on the line.

In the end, Cogar picked up the win after hitting Fuego with a taser and then a top rope DDT onto a trash can. As per the stipulation, following the referees’ count, an emotional Fuego removed the mask he had worn for the previous decade.

However, he then removed his boots and left the ring, signalling his retirement.

Posting on social media after the show, Fuego thanked fans and said it was time to move on.

11 Years…

Ups. Downs. Everything in between.
I’ve been selfish and doing this for me. Now it’s time to focus on my family and feeding them.

I left everything I had left in the ring…including my boots.

From the bottom of my heart… Thank you all for everything.

Fuego is Done

On the same show, ECW legend Sabu brought down the curtain on his career in typically violent fashion with a win over Joey Janela in the main event.
