Ex-AEW Star Blasts Tony Khan Over Exit

Tony Khan AEW

A former AEW star has discussed their departure from the company and says their attempts to communicate with Tony Khan initially went unanswered.

Marko Stunt was a part of the inaugural AEW pay-per-view back in May 2019 where he competed in the Casino Battle Royale. As Stunt settled into the company he became a part of Jurassic Express alongside Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus.

However when Christian Cage joined AEW and became aligned with the group, Marko Stunt began appearing less and less for the company and as it turned out, his days in the company were numbered as he left AEW when his contract expired in May 2022.

Now speaking to NBC Sports Boston’s Ten Count, Stunt revealed that he didn’t receive communication from AEW or Tony Khan prior to leaving although he says Khan did respond to another message later on:

“I never really had any communication at the end, so I didn’t know if I was getting let go or renewed or anything. I sent out an email and didn’t get a response, I texted him and didn’t get a response.”

“I was like, ‘Hey man, I just want to thank you for all the opportunities,’ because it was a fantastic opportunity … I lived my dream, so, I wanted to thank him for that, and he did text me back and was like, ‘Hey man, thank you for everything. Sorry we couldn’t get a spot for you moving forward.’”

Marko Stunt then revealed he was told he was let go by the company due to its budget:

“I was told budget reasoning and that plans had just changed for what they wanted to do. Yeah, so, that was really the only thing they told me. It was kind of a general let go like, ‘Oh hey, we’re not able to do this.’”
