The Ex-AEW Champion Darby Allin Was Desperate To Face

Darby Allin AEW

Darby Allin wishes he got to have a match with a former champion in AEW.

As one of the top stars of All Elite Wrestling, Darby Allin has been in the ring with a lot of the biggest names in the company over the last five years.

The daredevil Allin is a former two-time TNT Champion, who held that title for a total of 214 days, which means he has held longer than anybody in the history of the company.

One of the men who made that TNT Championship into the coveted championship that it is to this day is Mr. Brodie Lee, who also held the TNT Title a few months before his untimely death in December 2020.

During a recent episode of the Superstar Crossover podcast, Allin revealed that he spoke with AEW boss Tony Khan about wrestling Lee, but it never happened and sadly never will happen.

“Brodie Lee, by far (is someone I always wanted to work with that I did not get the chance to). When he first came to AEW, I went up to Tony Khan, I was like, ‘I need to wrestle that guy!’ It just never fit.”

“Storyline-wise, it never fit and it’s very unfortunate of the passing of him. But that was the guy. I don’t know why. It just felt like there was something we could have done really, really special.”

Darby Allin Loses AEW World Title Opportunity On AEW Dynamite

In the main event of AEW Dynamite Grand Slam in New York City, Darby Allin willingly put his AEW World Title opportunity on the line against Jon Moxley. Allin had earned the AEW World Title match opportunity earlier by winning a Royal Rampage match, yet he willingly put his title shot on the line.

The Dynamite match was won by Jon Moxley, who won with an incredible DDT off the top rope to put Allin away. Moxley will now go on to challenge his former Blackpool Combat Club ally Bryan Danielson for the AEW World Title at AEW WrestleDream.

As for Allin, he’ll have to bounce back from perhaps the biggest loss of his career.
