Ex-AEW Figure Critical Of Britt Baker Vs Mercedes Mone

Mercedes Mone vs. Britt Baker

A former AEW figure thinks Britt Baker vs. Mercedes Mone fell short of expectations.

After missing more than nine months of action, Britt Baker returned to AEW at Forbidden Door. And not only did she come back, she came back with a plan.

Baker stared down Mone on her return and this set into motion a heated feud between the pair. Eventually, a date for a match was set, and Mone and Baker finally met in the ring at All In at Wembley Stadium.

Despite Baker’s best efforts, it was Mone who left with the TBS Title, but the match was heavily criticised online, with AEW’s resident dentist talking much of the heat. As it turns out, those on social media weren’t the only ones feeling underwhelmed.

Britt Baker vs. Mercedes Mone “Missed The Mark”

While looking back at All In on Busted Open Radio, Mark Henry criticised the match between Baker and Mone. The former AEW commentator and backstage figure explained that from his perspective the match didn’t click, and it wasn’t that wasn’t the fault of the champion.

“It missed the mark,” Henry said. “I’m used to seeing Mercedes work a certain way and she didn’t work like that, and I don’t think that was because of her. Also, there were times they did a couple of things over again, because it didn’t get done right the first time, and a lot of that was the fact that the position that Britt was in was wrong.”

As he continued, Henry lay the match’s perceived failure firmly at Baker’s door.

“It would take for both people to be on the same page, and work together for the greater good of the match — not the greater good of the individual,” Henry said. “‘I don’t want this person to shine over me. I don’t want them to look good at my expense. I’m a pillar!’ That’s a work. You’re just the first woman hired. Get your ass out there and work for that person like your life depended on it.”

Mercedes Mone has yet to taste defeat since debuting with AEW in March.
