Ex-AEW Champions Still Under Contract Despite 9-Month Absence

Tony Khan AEW

A new report has shed light on two AEW stars who have not been seen in the company for nine months.

On the 2024 edition of Fright Night Dynamite, Private Party finally fulfilled their destiny as they defeated The Young Bucks to capture the AEW World Tag Team Championship for the very first time. However, Quen and Zay only managed two successful title defences before they were dethroned in brutal fashion by The Hurt Syndicate in January 2025.

While The Hurt Syndicate went on to dominate throughout the year, Private Party fell into the AEW vortex like so many other stars in the company and simply disappeared.

Private Party Still With AEW

Now, Fightful Select has issued a new report on the pair, indicating that both members of the team are currently still under contract. Things are said to get a bit foggy as far as details, as it has been implied that their deals don’t expire at the same time or that they might not due to injury time.

This is the issue that stopped Penta and Rey Fenix from leaving AEW at the same time, with Tony Khan adding injury time to Rey Fenix’s deal. That meant Fenix had to sit out for several more months while his brother had already debuted in WWE.

The report also noted that Quen and Zay have turned heads with their new, larger physiques. That was put down to The Hurt Syndicate’s influence, as they are said to have advised Private Party to spend more time in the gym to improve their career outlook.
