How An Ex-AEW Star Almost Tricked Ricky Steamboat To Turn Heel

Ricky Steamboat

WWE Hall of Famer Ricky Steamboat is a rare breed as one of wrestling’s perennial good guys but one ex-AEW star tried to change that.

Ricky Steamboat is a former NWA World Heavyweight Champion best remembered for his iconic feud with Ric Flair in 1989 where they traded that title. Steamboat also held the WWE Intercontinental Championship during his time in the ring, winning the gold in a mat classic against Randy Savage at WrestleMania 3.

One thing Steamboat has never been in his decades in the ring, however, is a heel.

Ricky Steamboat Almost Joined Bullet Club

Taking to social media, former AEW star Joey Janela revealed he almost had Ricky Steamboat reveal himself as a member of Bullet Club but Steamboat put a stop to it when he found out what the group was:

I almost tricked Ricky into turning heel when he was the special guest referee of a match Between Me and Tama Tonga.

He would stop counting my pin and reveal a bullet club shirt. I told him they were a babyface stable until somehow he found out they weren’t.

“Joey Are the bullet club heels” “I mean they are like popular” “I’ve never went heel in my career and never will Joey”

Ricky Steamboat had the final match of his career back in November 2022. Steamboat teamed with former AEW Tag Team Champions FTR to pick up the win over Brock Anderson, Jay Lethal, and current WWE SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis in that bout.
