ESPN Furious Over Stephanie McMahon’s Advice To WWE Fans
Stephanie McMahon has left WWE’s newest broadcast partner less than impressed after her advice to fans.
WWE has inked a lucrative new deal with ESPN that will see the company’s premium live events air on ESPN’s streaming service in the United States. That new deal kicks off sooner than most people anticipated, with Wrestlepalooza on September 20th.
WWE is set to stack that card with Brock Lesnar’s return match against John Cena, likely taking place on that show. There is also set to be another huge returning star on that show, with WWE apparently spoiling the return of AJ Lee. Lee is expected to be part of a huge mixed tag team match on the show that will see her team with her husband, CM Punk, to face Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch.
Such is the expected strength of Wrestlepalooza, AEW has been forced into a huge All Out change with the two shows originally set to go head-to-head.
But with everything looking positive for a great start between WWE and ESPN, has Stephanie McMahon spoiled things already?
Stephanie McMahon Upsets ESPN
On her recent What’s Your Story? podcast, McMahon did an ad-read for a VPN service where McMahon actively encouraged listeners to sign up for a VPN service that would allow them to watch WWE content on Netflix, as Netflix is already an international streaming partner for WWE PLEs. And McMahon’s comments have not gone unnoticed by ESPN.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that ESPN was not happy with McMahon’s suggestions to WWE fans:
I heard ESPN’s p*ssed. And they should be.
Stephanie McMahon currently holds no official role in WWE, which might give the company some wiggle room with their new partners.
