Eric Bischoff Says Turner Legal Asked To “Tone Down” WWE Hall Of Famer’s In-Ring Style
Eric Bischoff, former WCW executive and WWE Hall of Famer, shared insights into his working relationship with Mick Foley during Foley’s tenure in WCW.
Speaking on his 83 Weeks podcast, Eric Bischoff praised Foley’s immense talent but acknowledged the difficulties they faced due to Foley’s high-risk wrestling style.
The only issue I had with Foley is he wanted to do things, physically, that I just couldn’t let him do. I got word from Turner Legal to tone him down. There were concerns that not only could he permanently injure himself, or worse, but some of the stuff that he was doing could injure a fan, or worse.
Foley’s penchant for taking extreme risks in the ring raised red flags within Turner Broadcasting’s legal department, prompting concerns over potential liabilities. Bischoff said these worries left him with no choice but to step in and place restrictions on Foley’s in-ring performances.
Bischoff admitted to clashing with Foley over these limitations, noting that he had to “reign in” the future WWE Hall of Famer on several occasions. While the restrictions were intended to ensure safety, they may have contributed to Foley’s decision to part ways with WCW.
Which AEW Star Does Eric Bischoff Believe Tony Khan Is Holding Captive?
Eric Bischoff spoke about how he believes Tony Khan is holding Rey Fenix captive. Fenix has made it publicly known that he wishes to be released from his AEW contract, but it was reported that Tony Khan extended Fenix’s contract due to time missed as Fenix recovered from injury. Bischoff believes that Khan is holding Fenix captive by not releasing him from his AEW contract and allowing him to explore his opportunities elsewhere.
