Eric Bischoff Details Plans For Surprise Wrestling Return
Eric Bischoff isn’t quite planning a revolution.
On October 31st it was announced that Eric Bischoff would be working on a special event with MLW.
Bischoff will be working as an Executive Producer at MLW One Shot in New York on December 5th. Although his involvement is very much a one-off it caught fans and observers by surprise, given the veteran’s previous insistence that he no longer has an interest in working in wrestling.
Since the announcement was made, Bischoff has been at pains to stress that he won’t be changing the entire MLW product, rather the project is a collaboration between himself and Court Bauer.
Eric Bischoff To Sprinkle “Bischoff Dust” On MLW
During a special Ask Me Anything podcast for AdFreeShows, Bischoff was asked about his plans for MLW, and what fans might be able to expect. The former WCW boss said he’ll be looking to add his own spin onto the existing MLW product, especially when it comes to the cold open and backstage interviews.
“We’re actually having our first official creative morning tomorrow morning to take a look at the format, take a look at what we’re planning on doing right now, and then we’re gonna work together and I’m gonna sprinkle some Bischoff dust on it.
I’d like to — I’ve already been thinking about the cold open,” Eric Bischoff said. “Opens are a part of the program now that, sometimes at very best they’re serviceable, but in my opinion, show opens are missing the boat by a mile.
“There’s a lot of opportunity to pre-sell your audience on the show before it even starts but you got to set it up right. Capture their imagination and get their interest right off the bat. So I want to do that. I want to take a close look at how they’re doing their backstage promos or any of their in-ring promos because there’s different ways to do that.”
Bischoff added that it will also be an opportunity to put into practice many of his regular critiques of WWE and AEW.
“I don’t want anybody getting up to take a piss and forgetting what the main event is, I want them glued to their seat for it. That’s a challenge for me because I talk a lot about these things when we critique WWE or AEW in particular, I talk a lot about these things but now I’m gonna actually have a chance to do them and see how it affects the quality of the show. People may hate it, I don’t know.
Eric Bischoff hasn’t worked in wrestling since leaving WWE in October 2019 after a short spell as Executive Producer of SmackDown. Since then, the WWE Hall of Famer has repeatedly stated he wouldn’t go and work for either WWE or AEW.
