Eric Bischoff has made it clear that he doesn’t have any respect for CM Punk due to the former AEW World Champion taking shots at Hulk Hogan in the past.

When it comes to CM Punk, Eric Bischoff has a strong opinion about the man due to some shots that Punk took toward one of Bischoff’s best friends, the legendary two-time WWE Hall of Famer and one of the biggest stars in pro wrestling history, Hulk Hogan.

In the mid-1990s, Bischoff and Hogan worked closely together in WCW, which would eventually lead to Hogan becoming the “third man” in the New World Order stable that Eric Bischoff created when he was running WCW stable at the time.

Since then, Bischoff and Hogan have been close friends working together for many years in WCW, WWE and TNA Wrestling along with numerous other things.

CM Punk is not a fan of Hulk Hogan and said this about the Hulkster in a September 2021 interview shortly after Punk’s AEW debut.

“Throwing my name in the hat with someone like Steve Austin, who arguably is the biggest star the business has ever seen. A lot of this is subjective. You can make the argument that Hulk Hogan is a bigger star than Steve Austin.”

“Then you look at business periods and eras and box office receipts and all that other stuff. I think Hogan is a piece of sh*t, so obviously I’m like ‘Steve Austin, yeah.’ What it feels like, I don’t have the words to describe. I know what I feel like is, I want to help everyone on the AEW roster f*cking get there.”

There are many people within the pro wrestling business and fans worldwide that don’t like Hogan due to some racist comments he made in the past along with a reputation for being selfish at times in his career.

During an interview on the “Going Broadway” podcast, Eric Bischoff made it clear he doesn’t respect CM Punk due to Punk’s comments about Hulk Hogan in the past.

“I don’t have any respect for him. I gave him the benefit of the doubt because I never met the guy.”

Eric Bischoff did say that he wasn’t watching WWE regularly during Punk’s main event run in the company, but he did form an opinion after Punk criticized Hogan.

“When he came out and the first thing he did was go for the cheap heat … by burying Hulk Hogan. It’s like, ‘Wait a minute, dude. You never met Hulk Hogan; you’ve never worked with Hulk Hogan; you certainly don’t know Hulk Hogan; and you haven’t accomplished a fraction of a fraction of what Hulk Hogan has accomplished. So why are you burying him?'”

“When a talent has to go to the low-hanging, ‘cheap heat’ fruit right out of the shoot, that tells me he doesn’t really have anything. He exposed himself to me at that point. He exposed to me what he didn’t have.”

As he continued, Eric Bischoff also criticized Punk for saying in 2021 that his AEW debut along with Bryan Danielson and Adam Cole going to AEW was similar to Scott Hall and Kevin Nash going to WCW in 1996, which led to the NWO a few months later.

“That was the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard anybody say. So between those two things, it indicated to me that this guy ain’t all he’s cracked up to be. I think he’s a really average talent.”

The “average talent” CM Punk is still under contract to AEW and he’s expected to be healed from a torn triceps injury soon if he isn’t already. However, Punk’s AEW future is up in the air due to the lingering issues from his participation in the backstage fight at AEW All Out in September 2022, which was the night when Punk won the AEW World Title for the second time. Clearly, Eric Bischoff is not waiting with baited breath for Punk’s return to the ring.
