Edge Addresses Crowd After Potential Final WWE Match (VIDEO)

Edge spoke to the hometown crowd in Toronto after wrestling in what could have been his final WWE match on SmackDown.

The story going into Smackdown in Toronto was that Edge wanted to have one more match in his hometown facing off against a guy he never wrestled before that happens to be a good friend: Sheamus.

There was more to the story as well because Edge did an interview with Entertainment Tonight Canada to let them know that this was the WWE Hall of Famer’s last match under his current WWE contract. There was also a report earlier in the week that it could be Edge’s last match since he has mentioned it in the past.

It was an exciting nearly 20-minute matchup between Edge and Sheamus in the main event of SmackDown. They got three segments on the show meaning there were two commercials during the match. There were several nearfalls during the match to show that either guy could win. However, Edge managed to get the win with a Spear to keep Sheamus down for a three count. After the match, Edge and Sheamus embraced in a hug.

After the show was off the air, Edge talked to the Toronto crowd while making it clear that it was likely his last time wrestling there. Normally, WWE only does on Smackdown or Raw taping in a calendar year along with two or three live events.

“What I can say is that this is my last one in front of y’all. I don’t think I can make it another full run to get here again for a match.”

“I’m just being honest with you, but don’t let that be a downer because, man, what an experience you all gave me. I will never forget it. I will never forget it. When I’m 84 years old, and I don’t remember much, I’m damn sure going to remember this. Thank you.” (H/T Fightful)

Edge also spoke about how he had to talk to his family about what next. He also thanked his trainer Ron Hutchison, his wife Beth Phoenix and his two daughters Ruby & Lyric.

Clearly, Edge has a lot of thinking to do because if it is the end of his WWE contract, that means he could simply retire from pro wrestling for good just months ahead of his 50th birthday in October. He could re-sign with WWE obviously for a few matches or maybe go to another wrestling promotion.
