Eddie Kingston On His Mindset Going Into First NJPW G1 Climax Tournament
Having recently picked up his first NJPW gold, Eddie Kingston seems ready for the challenge of the G1 Climax Tournament.
On the second night of Independence Day earlier this month, Eddie Kingston defeated Kenta to win the Strong Openweight Championship. Before this, he had also been confirmed as part of the 33rd G1 Climax, where he will compete in Block C alongside David Finlay, Tomohiro Ishii, EVIL, Tama Tonga, Shingo Takagi, Aaron Henare and Mikey Nicholls.
Ahead of the tournament, Kingston spoke to NJPW World about his feelings going in, and how there was a special vibe for such a prestigious tournament.
I can feel the spirit, you know. I can’t stop smiling, because I can feel the spirit, the fighting spirit of my heroes that wrestled here, and it’s something that I’ve never felt before. This power – I’m almost speechless, there’s no words that can do justice to this building and the company and the tournament. It means everything to me. It’s what I’ve wanted to do since I got started in the business. The pinnacle of pro-wrestling. You have to be battle hardened, you have to be battle tested to survive here.
Eddie Kingston will compete in his first match in the tournament tomorrow in Hokkaido, when he takes on Shingo Takagi.
