Eddie Kingston Admits AEW Doesn’t Need Him
Eddie Kingston thinks AEW is doing just fine.
Following a brutal no-ropes Last Man Standing match against Gabe Kidd in May, it was revealed Eddie Kingston had broken his leg as well as tearing his ACL and meniscus. The star suffered the injury after his leg crashed against a steel guard rail while taking a suplex from the ring apron to the floor through a table.
Given the nature of his injury problems Kingston has had plenty of time to assess his role in AEW and take stock.
During an appearance on The DAVINci Report, Kingston said he doesn’t think AEW is really missing him, highlighting the success of the storyline between Jon Moxley and Darby Allin. The pair are set to meet at Grand Slam, with the winner going to face Bryan Danielson for the World Championship.
“To be honest, AEW right now doesn’t really need me at this point in time. In my opinion, with what’s going on. They are doing their thing. I think having me around right now may mess up some plans, which I like doing, but also trying to be a company guy. I’m trying. You don’t want to mess up the plans too much. Especially when it’s good.
I don’t know what’s going on with [Jon Moxley]. I haven’t talked to him in three or four months. I don’t know what’s going on with him with this whole Darby (Allin) thing. I knew something was up because we text each other at least once or twice a week, just funny stuff, nothing about wrestling. A funny meme or a stupid Instagram thing, just to make each other laugh.
He’s doing his thing. I have nothing against what he’s doing. (I’m) not needed right now, I don’t think,”
Eddie Kingston Is Recovering Well
During the same interview, Eddie Kingston noted that he can walk around and lift weights as he continues his recovery. The star is facing a lengthy journey back to the ring as he had to wait for his broken leg to begin healing before undergoing knee surgery.
The former Ring of Honor Champion will be out of action until at least May 2025.
