Eddie Guerrero’s Hilarious Reaction To Losing Backstage Fight Against WWE Legend
A WWE legend was able to defend himself easily when Eddie Guerrero tried to attack backstage.
It was 20 years ago, in November 2005, when the WWE Hall of Famer Eddie Guerrero passed away tragically in a hotel room. Eddie was just 38 years old at the time of his death, and he was an active WWE superstar who was one of the most popular wrestlers of his era, or any era.
Even though Eddie has been gone for 20 years, his name is still chanted at wrestling shows, just like it was at the WWE-AAA Worlds Collide Las Vegas event when Dominik Mysterio hit the Three Amigos suplexes during his AAA Grand Championship match victory.
One of Eddie’s greatest WWE rivals was Kurt Angle, whom Eddie Guerrero faced for the WWE Championship multiple times, most famously at WrestleMania 20 in 2004. Eddie won that night with a crafty victory involving taking off his boot to counter Angle’s Ankle Lock.
Guerrero and Angle went on to wrestle many times over the years. They were friends, but competitive athletes sometimes have problems too.
During the Cody Rhodes “What Do You Wanna Talk About” podcast, WWE’s Executive Director Bruce Prichard recalled the time when Eddie Guerrero tried to fight Kurt Angle in the locker room and attempted a double leg takedown, which was not a smart move against an Olympic Gold Medal wrestler like Angle.
Bruce: “When Eddie Guerrero and Kurt Angle got into a fight, it didn’t last long because Eddie tried to double leg Kurt.”
Cody: “I heard.”
Bruce: “And it was over.”
Cody: “And I heard Kurt was shocked that he tried to double leg him.”
Bruce: “Very.”
Cody: “Like you tried to take me down.”
Bruce: “And Eddie’s sitting on a box, Bradshaw asked him the same question about what it was: ‘Eddie, what possessed you to try and double leg Kurt?’ He goes: ‘I’m just stupid! I don’t know! I’m just stupid!'”
Cody: “It’s so good.”
Kurt Angle Explains What Happened When Eddie Guerrero Tried To Fight Him
The Kurt Angle-Eddie Guerrero fight story is something that has been talked about by decades. Kurt Angle has given his version of what happened as well.
“I was a part of a faction at this point in time with Luther Reigns and Mark Jindrak, and we had to get heat on Eddie and Chavo that night. It was at the end of the show, and I never touched Eddie. I only grabbed a hold of Chavo and I got heat on him. The other two got heat on Eddie.”
“When we came backstage, Eddie was pi**ed, he’s like, ‘What the f**k, you guys were shooting on me, beating me up for real.’ I’m like, ‘Eddie, I didn’t touch you.’ He said, ‘Yes, you did.’”
At that point, things got physical.
“He pushed me, and I said, ‘Eddie, don’t do it again.’ He pushed me again, so I pushed him back, and he went to double-leg me. I sprawled on him, got him in a front headlock, and started choking him out.”
WWE legend Big Show (AEW’s Paul Wight) was there to break it up before things went too far too quickly.
“I was so pi**ed at Big Show because I got like little guy syndrome, I couldn’t believe how quickly he picked me up like I was nothing.”
