ECW Legend Receives Huge Tribute After Dynamite

With AEW beginning its residency in the old ECW Arena in Philadelphia, they’ve paid tribute to an icon of that promotion.

Forbidden Door saw Adam Page successfully defend his AEW World Championship against MJF while Toni Storm also held onto her gold in a hard-fought win over ROH Women’s World Champion Athena. The night’s main event saw Will Ospreay, Hiroshi Tanahashi, Darby Allin, Kenny Omega, and Kota Ibushi defeat the Death Riders and the Young Bucks in a wild lights out steel cage match.

After that match, however, the show was not over as Will Ospreay was brutally attacked by Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli, who dropped Ospreay on his head repeatedly. Ospreay was then stretchered out of the arena, and it looks likely he will be facing neck surgery in the near future.

With things getting extreme in London, AEW headed to the home of extreme as they began their residency in the old ECW Arena in Philadelphia for Dynamite.

ECW Icon Taz Receives Glowing Tribute

That show saw HOOK make his official return to AEW with brand new music, and the young star was seen after the show as an ECW legend received a fitting tribute in the building where he once starred. After Dynamite, Tony Khan, HOOK, and Taz’s wife were joined by AEW staff as they paid tribute to the inimitable Taz.

The Wrestling Observer’s Jim Valley gave more insight into what took place and Taz’s reaction to it:

After Dynamite, “War Machine” by KISS played. Tony Khan and probably 30 wrestlers, refs and staff (Hook, Mrs. Taz, and more) came out wearing orange Team Taz Dojo t-shirts.

In the ring, Tony Khan said the best way to end the show was to “pay tribute to the greatest legend in the history of this building.”

Taz thanked his son and his wife for “kayfabing” him. He said he had mostly great memories in this building. He’s very blessed for his career, his family and to be with this company.

Tony Khan then revealed that after Collision on August 30th, Taz will be officially honoured as his name will be hung in the rafters of the 2300 Arena.
