ECW Icon Sabu’s Final Match In Serious Doubt

Sabu WWE

ECW icon and former WWE star Sabu was set to retire in 2025 at the age of 60 but now it looks like his planned final match is off.

At The People vs. GCW in New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom, Joey Janela defeated former ECW World Heavyweight Champion Masato Tanaka in a brutal match involving tables, chairs, and even a door.

After dropping Tanaka with a Package Piledriver onto a steel chair for the victory, Janela picked up a microphone and asked the crowd to give the Japanese legend a standing ovation. Before he was able to say more, the lights went out and clips of ECW star Sabu began playing.

When the lights came back on, the iconic star was standing in the ring, and Janela announced that he would face him on April 19th at Spring Break: Clusterf**k Forever in Las Vegas, Nevada. Not only that, but it would also be the final match of Sabu’s 35-year career.

But that doesn’t look like it’s going to happen now.

Joey Janela Won’t Find Replacement For Sabu’s Last Match

Joey Janela recently suffered an injury that will keep him from competing on the show but he says there’s no way anyone else is stepping in to have Sabu’s last match but him after a fan suggested Rob Van Dam could face his old partner on social media:

If I’m not wrestling on the show Sabu won’t be wrestling on the show, as simple as that. Even if I’d have to create a new Joey Janela spectacle show for summer. That match belongs to me and I don’t deserve to have it taken from me.. I’ve sacrificed too much not to be selfish this time..
