Why Drew McIntyre’s New WWE Deal Is Very Smart For The Star

Drew McIntyre

Drew McIntyre is staying put in WWE but it seems the former World Heavyweight Champion has been clever in the deal he has signed.

As confirmed by The Rock on Instagram, Drew McIntyre has finally signed a new deal with WWE, ending one of the longest-running contract sagas in recent memory. The Scottish star was set to become a free agent at the end of May, after a contract stalemate lasting several months.

A report from PWInsider said the deal was only agreed in recent days, with one source commenting that it’s for three years.

In the same report, PWInsider noted that the former World Champion won’t be back on television “immediately.” Drew McIntyre has been working with a “badly hyperextended elbow” in recent weeks after picking up the problem at WrestleMania.

Drew McIntyre “Very Smart” For 3-Year WWE Deal

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer gave his thoughts on McIntyre’s new deal and said the Scottish star was smart to only sign a three-year deal rather than a five-year one that WWE has offered top stars in recent years:

Three-year deal. I viewed three years as very smart on his part. If there’s two companies around in three years which there more likely than not will be you can go in there and [negotiate].

With Drew, I don’t know the number but I will say one would think, of all the full-time wrestlers they’ve got on the roster and Roman Reigns is not a full-time wrestler and [Brock] Lesnar’s not either and who knows if Lesnar is even gonna be back or not anyway.

[…] Drew probably should be three or four [on the roster] and three or four right now you’re talking $4 million a year – I don’t know that he’s getting it, I don’t know the number but right now that’s the level he should be at.
