Drew McIntyre Wanted To Prove CM Punk Wrong During WWE Rivalry
Drew McIntyre says that a comment that CM Punk made during their WWE rivalry fired up the Scottish Warrior.
A new year has arrived, but when WWE fans think about the year that was 2024, the epic rivalry between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre will likely be remembered as the feud of the year.
Due to CM Punk suffering a torn triceps injury that kept him on the shelf for about six months, Drew and Punk had to further the storyline by having Punk screw Drew out of the World Title multiple times while also exchanging words on the microphone. To some fans, the promos that Drew and Punk did were better than the matches.
While Punk ultimately won the feud with a big win inside Hell in a Cell at Bad Blood in Atlanta, McIntyre has been praised heavily for having what was possibly the best year of his career.
In an interview with The Ringer, Drew McIntyre made it clear that there are unresolved issues between the two men.
“I’ve never really gone into the details, and maybe I will eventually. (The conflict) has adversely affected my career. It stems from a real personal place.”
Drew McIntyre Was Motivated After What CM Punk Said During WWE Promo
As Drew McIntyre opened up more about his issues with CM Punk, he recalled Punk saying a line about how Drew wasn’t known for talking.
“The first interview we had [when Punk returned] I was able to look him in the eye to let him know I’m not the same kid I once was. He made the one comment.”
That line set McIntyre off.
“You can see the look in my eye. ‘All right, I’ll show you. Things are getting different around here.’ I can feel it, and I feel myself being like, ‘I’m going to say whatever the hell I want [now]. I’m not going to go off on a tangent with story parameters, but I’m going to shred you.’”
Drew McIntyre will be in action on Raw’s Netflix debut on January 6th in Los Angeles when faces former Intercontinental Champion Jey Uso. Punk will be in action that night also when he faces Seth Rollins in a match that is expected to main event the show.
