The Real Reason Drew McIntyre Stayed Silent After Vince McMahon Reference On WWE Raw
Drew McIntyre revealed what really went through his mind after CM Punk referenced disgraced former WWE chairman Vince McMahon in a heated promo.
Before WrestleMania 40, CM Punk continued his war of words with Drew McIntyre ahead of McIntyre’s match for the World Heavyweight Championship against Seth Rollins.
In his hometown of Chicago on Raw, Punk was in full flow in front of his adoring public before Drew McIntyre interrupted as he continued to mock Punk for not being a part of WrestleMania due to his injury. McIntyre referred to himself as “the chosen one” as he had been known early in his initial WWE run. Punk didn’t miss a trick as he begged McIntyre to mention the person who gave him that nickname, that person being disgraced ex-WWE Chairman Vince McMahon. McIntyre declined to mention McMahon’s name on the show.
Drew McIntyre Did What Was Right For WWE
Speaking to the Metro, Drew McIntyre has now revealed what went through his head at that time and why he made the snap decision to do what was best for WWE business by keeping his mouth shut:
What was going through my mind was I could respond right now, and would it be a good look for our company? And I have to make a decision because we’re going O.K. Corral-style, unloading rounds on each other.
I did what I thought was right for not just the company, but for our roster, and held my tongue on that night. I had a couple of things in mind that would have melted the internet, but potentially hurt us in different ways. If you see Drew McIntyre going off those lines, swearing and saying things like ‘wow, this is gonna potentially hurt himself or the company or the roster’, then it’s because I have lost it.
Drew McIntyre won and lost the World Heavyweight Title at WrestleMania 40 as he got too close to CM Punk after he defeated Seth Rollins for the gold. Punk hit out at McIntyre and allowed Damian Priest to cash in his Money In The Bank contract on him.
McIntyre will get the chance to reclaim that title when he takes on Damian Priest at Clash at the Castle with The Judgment Day banned from ringside for that match.
