Drew McIntyre Returns To Scotland As WWE Champion (VIDEO)
Drew McIntyre has returned to his home country as the WWE Champion.
The “Scottish Warrior” Drew McIntyre is the Undisputed WWE Champion again after winning the title on SmackDown in Berlin. For McIntyre, it’s his fourth time as a WWE World Champion overall and his third time holding the WWE Title, which he last held in 2021.
Drew McIntyre won the WWE Championship against Cody Rhodes in a 3 Stages of Hell Match thanks to a surprising, accidental assist from Jacob Fatu. After Fatu prevented McIntyre from leaving the cage to win the Steel Cage Match fall of the match, he went into the cage to attack McIntyre some more. Rhodes didn’t like Fatu getting involved, so Rhodes and Fatu fought.
The fight between Fatu and Rhodes allowed Drew McIntyre to crawl out the door and land on the floor to win the Steel Cage Match and become the Undisputed WWE Champion.
There isn’t much time to rest or celebrate for McIntyre because the WWE SmackDown crew flew from Berlin to Glasgow, Scotland, for a January 10th live event at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow.
Drew McIntyre’s First Show After Winning WWE Title Is In Scotland
On WWE’s social media channels, they showed the WWE Champion McIntyre at the airport with the championship on his shoulder as he spoke to the camera.
“Said I was bringing this title home. Took a few years, but I never lie. Officially on Scottish soil, WWE Champion. I say it’s surreal. It’s not, it’s just a matter of time.
Thank God I am home. Went to university, 30 minutes from here, which is a hike, probably 15 minutes from here. Grew up 40 minutes from here.”

In July 2024, Drew McIntyre was inducted into the Scottish Wrestling Hall of Fame, and many people would consider him to be the greatest wrestler from the country. It could be argued that he’s the best wrestler out of the United Kingdom as well, but he still has many more years ahead of him.
At WWE SmackDown on January 9th, General Manager Nick Aldis announced an 8-man tournament to determine the next challenger to the coveted Undisputed WWE Championship.
In this tournament, there will be four singles matches on the January 16th edition of SmackDown in London, featuring eight of the best male wrestlers on the blue brand. Those matches are:
* Randy Orton vs. The Miz
* Matt Cardona vs. Trick Williams
* Damian Priest vs. Solo Sikoa
* Sami Zayn vs. Ilja Dragunov
The winners of those matches will face off in a Fatal 4-Way Match at Saturday Night’s Main Event on January 24th in Montreal, which is Sami Zayn’s hometown.
Whoever wins that match at Saturday Night’s Main Event will go on to the Royal Rumble on January 31st in Riyadh to challenge the Undisputed WWE Champion for the biggest prize on SmackDown.
