Drew McIntyre Reveals Truth Behind Royal Rumble Walkout
Drew McIntyre invented some swear words on his way out of the Royal Rumble.
After entering the men’s Royal Rumble match at number 17, McIntyre hung around for just over 26 minutes before being eliminated by Damian Priest. However, by the time he got backstage, an irate Drew McIntyre was shouting and swearing before leaving the arena.
It was reported in the days after the show that McIntyre and others were frustrated by LA Knight, who was said to be more focused on getting his own spots in than helping the flow of the match.
McIntyre’s elimination by Priest set up a rivalry between the pair that lasted until Saturday Night’s Main Event in May.
During a new interview with the Gorilla Position podcast, McIntyre explained why he stormed out and why he feels it’s often his best course of action.
“I will tell you that I was not happy. I invented a few swear words, and then I left the building. I left the building because I’m a professional. The same with the CM Punk thing. I blow up big time every couple of years, but every time I get upset, it somehow makes the internet because it’s such a scene. Generally, I don’t, but my thing is, I’m going to leave the building.”

McIntyre was also noticeably annoyed when CM Punk returned to WWE at Survivor Series 2023. But while Seth Rollins screamed at Punk, venting his own frustration, McIntyre again walked out.
McIntyre went on to explain why he isn’t like Rollins, but he knew what he needed to do to remain professional.
“I would walk down and punch somebody in the face, because that’s who I am. But I’m also professional, so I’d rather take myself out of this situation because I know how bad my temper is, and sometimes, when you calm down, things are not as they seem. So I’ve learned to just walk away. That’s the adult thing to do. Calm down, look at the things, and then, if you still feel the same, knock somebody out.”
In an earlier interview, Drew McIntyre said he may have punched someone in the face if he hadn’t left the Royal Rumble when he did.
At Saturday Night’s Main Event, McIntyre suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Damian Priest inside a steel cage. Following the show and the brutal Con-Chair-To that ended the bout, it was reported that the Scottish star would be taking a break from the ring.
In the lead-up to the special, McIntyre admitted he was banged up, but remained determined to wrestle as planned. There’s no word on when he’ll return to action.
