Drew McIntyre Names Painful Bump He’ll Never Take Again
Drew McIntyre knows his limits.
Back in 2024, Drew McIntyre and CM Punk engaged in one of the most violent and heated rivalries WWE has seen in several years.
In something of a throwback, the feud eventually came to an end in a blood-soaked Hell In A Cell match at Bad Blood. The match was littered with painful and risky spots, with McIntyre sustaining a nasty cut on his head thanks to a shot with a toolbox from Punk.
The chaos was finally brought to an end after McIntyre took a backbody drop on the edge of the steel stairs that left fans wondering how he managed to return to his feet.
During an appearance on the Gorilla Position podcast, McIntyre looked back on his Hell In A Cell match with Punk and admitted that he won’t be taking that bump onto the steel stairs again.
“I got lucky, convinced I could do it as safely as possible, and I did, but it’s not a risk I’ll ever take again. It’s the risk for that match, for that moment, and I knew in the moment like, considering, you know, the amount of blood that was going on and how it felt in there and the story we’re telling and the way things were coming off this is the match I’ve been looking for in my whole life.”
As a kid, I used to always love those final blowoff matches. You know, the Triple H vs. Mick Foley kind of matches the final ones, just the bloodbaths, the war. And afterwards, like, my God, I’ll always remember this. And I do remember moments like that and was aware I’m having one of those right now, and for me personally, I’ll look back one day when it’s all over and go, “Wow, that was pretty cool.
And I know a lot of fans out there will feel the same way. Especially younger fans who were like me when I was watching as a kid. So for that match, I was willing to do something, yeah, a bit stupid, but it came off. It went as good as it can, considering it was legitimately my lower back I landed on. And, yep, it’s a one-and-done will never be done again and that match will live forever.”
Drew McIntyre Taking WWE Break
For much of 2025, McIntyre has been at war with fellow former World Champion Damian Priest. After several violent clashes both in and out of the ring, the pair met one final time in a Cage Match at Saturday Night’s Main Event on May 24.
When all was said and done, it was Priest who — literally — walked away with the win thanks to a violent Con-Chair-To.
Following the special, it was reported that Drew McIntyre was going on hiatus after working banged up for several weeks. There’s no word on when the Scottish star will return to action.
