Drew McIntyre Jokes That Unhappy Stars Should Change Their Last Name To Fatu
WWE star Drew McIntyre has some interesting advice for young stars.
Drew McIntyre’s journey to the top of WWE has been far from straightforward. The company isn’t exactly known for its history of Scottish Superstars, but that didn’t stop McIntyre from being anointed the “Chosen One.”
However, his initial run with the company ended in release, and it was only after returning in 2017 that he was finally after to make his mark.
During an interview with Sports Illustrated, McIntyre was asked whether he’s motivated to work harder knowing that rivals have a famous family lineage to fall back on. In typical McIntyre style, he dismissed the idea, but joked that he tells other talent to change their name to Fatu when they ask him for advice.
“No, I can really care less what your last name is. My journey is very different from basically anybody’s ever. I came from Scotland, was the first-ever Scottish person ever signed directly from Scotland to WWE, a country of five million people, and I’ve had such a unique journey, a lot of ups and downs on the way.
The longtime fans out there will know everything I’ve been through and had to fight for everything I got.
Today’s day in age, it’s lucky I’m as good as I am or I might get lost in the shuffle because I suggest to a lot of the talent backstage when they’re asking for advice, maybe change your last name to Fatu or something. You might get more opportunities.”
Drew McIntyre Feeling Better Than Ever
Speaking elsewhere, Drew McIntyre revealed that he’s completely changed his lifestyle away from the ring in order to try and come back better than ever. The star explained that during his absence, he began working with a dietitian and personal trainer as he felt he wasn’t looking after himself as he should.
As a result, McIntyre said he’s in better shape now than he has been for several years, and feels better than he did going into the 2020 Royal Rumble, which he famously won.
McIntyre will be back in action at Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12 when he faces Randy Orton.
