Why Drew McIntyre Must Be John Cena’s Final WWE Opponent

John Cena WWE

John Cena’s final match’s venue, event, and date have been decided. Now, all that WWE needs to fix is the superstar who will face The Champ.

On December 13th, 2025, at Saturday Night’s Main Event, John Cena will step into the ring for the final time. He will retire as an active pro-wrestler following that match.

While there are no definite names for the match, some names, such as Brock Lesnar, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and even Drew McIntyre, have been discussed during various podcasts.

Drew McIntyre should be the one to retire John Cena

Recently, McIntyre faced Cody Rhodes at Wrestlepalooza for the Undisputed WWE Championship. While the WWE Universe wanted to see The Scottish Warrior dethrone The American Nightmare, that did not happen. Rhodes emerged victorious from the match.

On Notsam Wrestling, Sam Roberts discussed that McIntyre was ready to be a champion, and if he isn’t dethroning a champion, he needs to be given the spot in John Cena’s final match.

There is a growing subset of fans that were kind of hoping to see Drew McIntyre win the championship, that are ready to see Drew McIntyre win the championship. For me, Drew has, I mean, his stock doesn’t get touched. The level that he’s at doesn’t get touched because he is so, so very good. But in terms of being like, how do you make him the guy that becomes the champion?

I think there’s one thing and one thing only to do, and that’s on December, whenever it is, to give Drew McIntyre John Cena’s last match. If Drew McIntyre can beat John Cena on John Cena’s way out, then Drew McIntyre is immediately the guy, and he goes into 2026 that one level up. He needs to be one level up to be that champion that is now the champion that nobody can beat.

Drew McIntyre has already expressed his desire to be the one to retire John Cena.
