Drew McIntyre Grudge Match Set For WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event
Drew McIntyre will enter a steel cage at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event.
The rivalry between Drew McIntyre and Damian Priest goes back over one year to when Priest cashed in Money in the Bank on McIntyre to become the World Heavyweight Champion at WrestleMania 40.
While McIntyre was embroiled in a bloody, personal feud with CM Punk, Priest was also involved and benefitted from Punk wanting to screw McIntyre out of being a champion again.
At WrestleMania 41, Drew McIntyre defeated Damian Priest in a very physical Sin City Street Fight. That match ended when McIntyre hit a Claymore Kick into a chair, smashing into Priest’s head. It may have appeared to end the feud, but that was not the case.
McIntyre and Priest were involved in a US Title Fatal 4-Way match with champion Jacob Fatu and former LA Knight. During the match, McIntyre and Priest went fighting into the crowd. They fought on top of some equipment case, which led to Priest slamming McIntyre through a table. McIntyre’s head hit the floor upon landing, but thankfully, he wasn’t seriously injured.
Drew McIntyre And Damian Priest Steel Cage Match Taking Place At WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event
During a video package that aired on WWE SmackDown in Greensboro, Damian Priest spoke about his ongoing issues with Drew McIntyre. Priest discussed how he wanted this cycle to end between them, so Priest challenged McIntyre to a Steel Cage Match at Saturday Night’s Main Event next week.
WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event will take place on Saturday, May 24th in Tampa, Florida.
Later on SmackDown, Drew McIntyre responded to Damian Priest with a promo in the ring. McIntyre claimed he was the only reason why anybody gives a damn about Damian Priest.
McIntyre mentioned that he beat Priest at WrestleMania, and Priest continues to get involved. McIntyre said he knew it was jealousy because Priest knows McIntyre is better than him. McIntyre yelled about Priest slamming him off a platform and slamming his head into the concrete.
As he concluded his promo, McIntyre said this has to end, so he’ll see him inside that Steel Cage next Saturday. McIntyre said that when he guarantees something, it happens. Drew said that only one man would leave that cage, while the other would leave on a stretcher, in reference to Priest. WWE has made the match official.
There are four confirmed matches for the May 24th episode of Saturday Night’s Main Event.
* Steel Cage Match: Damian Priest vs. Drew McIntyre
* John Cena vs. R-Truth
* Seth Rollins & Bron Breakker vs. CM Punk & Sami Zayn
* World Heavyweight Championship: Jey Uso vs. Logan Paul
It’s certainly possible that WWE will add more matches to the show.
