Drew McIntyre Promises To Get Back What He Deserves And Then Disappear

After reflecting on his battle with CM Punk, Drew McIntyre is looking to the future.

Throughout 2024, CM Punk and Drew McIntyre went to war.

In a rivalry powered by real-life animosity, the pair set about crafting a storyline to take WWE by storm and bring back some of the grit the company had been missing. In the eyes of fans and critics alike, they undoubtedly achieved that, with their violent clash inside Hell In A Cell, adding a bloody exclamation point to a gripping story.

During a new interview with Sports Illustrated, McIntyre again looked back on his rivalry with Punk and delivered perhaps his most damning assessment yet. The Scottish star said that he was the one to elevate Punk and bring back the fire he’d been lacking. He added that now he’s been removed from the picture, his rival has gone back to “playing CM Punk.”

“I mean, the public certainly enjoyed it more than anything I’ve probably ever done. (CM) Punk’s quote is interesting. He elevates everybody even though he was on his arse injured for half of the feud. Drew McIntyre elevated that feud, Drew McIntyre elevated Punk and put him in the position that he’s not been in since the last time he was in WWE.

He was just playing CM Punk and he finally became CM Punk with me and every time I turned it on now, he looks like he’s playing CM Punk again so he looks like he misses Drew McIntyre but, you know, you gotta have the right opponent to elevate the feud and CM Punk was somebody that I have personal feelings about, his personal feelings about me, it all came from a real place.”

Drew McIntyre Gunning For World Championship Gold

McIntyre went on to say that being able to take time away from the ring has enabled him to come back with a new mindset and a new focus. And that focus is World Championship gold. However, he remained adamant that when he gets what he wants, he’s not sticking around.

“So yeah, I gave — actually, I didn’t give as good as I got. I gave better than I got by freaking far. That’s why I won every award that was given out in 2024 and now that I’ve been out for five weeks, six weeks, I’ve taken a step back, I’ve (looked) at the landscape, I’ve seen what’s been happening recently and I’ve came back with a new mindset.

I’m back to get what’s mine. It’s time for Drew McIntyre to be WWE Champion again. Get what I deserve, get what I’ve earned and when I’m gone, I’ll be gone. You won’t see me showing up in some spin-off WWE shows, like, please watch me, please remember me. I’m gonna make sure I do everything I wanna do…”

Speaking elsewhere, Drew McIntyre revealed that he’s completely changed his lifestyle away from the ring in order to try and come back better than ever.

McIntyre is due to return to the ring at Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12 to face Randy Orton.
