Drew McIntyre On His Excitement Going Into SummerSlam Match
Drew McIntyre is so excited to wrestle GUNTHER at SummerSlam 2023 that he won’t be appearing on the final RAW before that Premium Live Event.
McIntyre returned on July 1st at Money in the Bank and set his eyes on GUNTHER and his Intercontinental title. He made it clear that he’s out for revenge following his loss to GUNTHER at WrestleMania 39 and wants to negate his loss from the last time WWE had a PLE in the UK, which was Clast at the Castle in September 2022.
GUNTHER accepted McIntyre’s challenge on the July 24th episode of RAW and then tried to send a message to his challenger by attacking him after a match with Ludwig Kaiser.
However, it was McIntyre who stood tall after he powerbombed GUNTHER through one of the ringside commentary tables
Drew McIntyre will skip RAW and head straight for SummerSlam as he prepares to fight GUNTHER one-on-one
In an interview with TMZ, Drew McIntyre explained why he’s so excited to get in the ring with FUNTHER, despite everyone else describing GUNTHER with so much fear and concern in their words.
“I’m very excited. I have been off since WrestleMania, April. That is, oh my goodness, three months now, and I’ve been out of the ring. It’s the longest time I’ve been out of the ring ever. I’ve only had two matches since I came back.
I will not be at Raw next week, and we’ll be going straight into that match. GUNTHER is an incredible competitor. He’s had the title for over 400 days. He really has reestablished the Intercontinental Title as a premier title that he used to be back in the day when Brett Hart had it, when Shawn Michaels had it when Drew McIntyre had it about, oh my goodness, 13 years ago now or something like that.
So I’m excited to get a big match with him. We’re part of a triple threat at WrestleMania, which is one of the best matches I’ve ever had, and one of the funniest matches I’ve ever had.
He’s a hard-hitting guy. I am a hard-hitting guy. I guarantee everyone watching SummerSlam is going to feel the strikes in that match. Whatever you think about WWE and wrestling, whatever preconceptions you have, watch through McIntyre versus GUNTHER, and I promise you you’ll question what you think you know.”
