Drew McIntyre Doesn’t Understand Why Bret Hart Loves CM Punk

Drew McIntyre thinks CM Punk is the opposite of Bret Hart.

Drew McIntyre has made no secret of his real-life dislike of CM Punk, even if he feels that their issues have helped them in the ring.

But while McIntyre doesn’t think much of his rival, Bret Hart thinks CM Punk is the best wrestler in the world today. Hart said that what impresses him most about Punk is how he could be dropped into any era and any position and find success, adding that he “represents the business.”

During an appearance on Huge Pop, McIntyre broke down how he believes wrestling matches should be put together. He explained that moves are incredibly important, something he felt should be obvious, but that they mean little if there isn’t an emotional connection with the crowd.

While giving his explanation, he also managed to fire an insult at long-time rival CM Punk for good measure.

“The moves do matter; that’s a prerequisite. If you’re a wrestler and you don’t do the moves well, you shouldn’t be a wrestler. I shouldn’t have to say the moves are important because of course the moves are important. You should be able to execute them well.

CM Punk, I don’t know how Bret loves him so much; he’s like the opposite of the Excellence of Execution. His moves are executed terribly, but he believes everything he says, and people buy his crap. Good for him, I guess.

To me, as a wrestler growing up and as a Bret Hart fan, you should be able to do the moves well. That should be a given. You shouldn’t have to talk about the moves because you should just do them.

What’s important on top of that is emotional connection. How are you going to do that and connect with the fans? So many people worry about all the intricate sequences and whatever they’ve got in their head. All it takes is one split second of looking in someone’s eyes and see they are thinking too much or are not present in that moment,”

Drew McIntyre Reflects On Key Advice From The Undertaker

On the same theme, McIntyre recalled a piece of advice he was given by The Undertaker during his first run with the company. He said the Deadman simply told him to make sure he is the wrestler, rather than just playing a wrestler.

McIntyre added that there’s a difference between getting applause for simply doing moves, and getting a genuine reaction from fans who are emotionally invested in the action.

“A lot of people go out there and just play wrestler. People watching, if you do pretty moves, they’ll get [claps] and they enjoy the performance aspect, but they’ll never get truly emotionally invested unless they are present and know who they are as a charatcer and are selling the story, action and emotion they want to sell during that match or segment.

If you’re not able to fully embody that character and be the wrestler instead of playing the wrestler, then you’re never truly going to make it to the main event scene.

If you do, because you’re such a freak athlete, you’re one injury away from not being able to do the stuff that got you the [claps] and not making people feel in their heart,”

On the most recent episode of SmackDown, Drew McIntyre set his sights on Cody Rhodes, smashing the star through the commentary table. McIntyre ended the segment by warning Rhodes that the Undisputed WWE Championship is his.

The interaction has sparked speculation that the pair could meet at Clash in Paris.
